In support of sustainable development, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) offers Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships to talented and motivated individuals. Students who otherwise couldn’t afford to study in the UK can take benefit from these scholarships. There are six themes for the commonwealth scholarships:

  1. Improvement through science and technology
  2. Stabilizing health systems
  3. Prosperity for the world
  4. Globalization of peace, security, and governance

Eligibility for the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship

These scholarships require that you:

  • The applicant must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country or refugee status or be a British Person.
  • Residents of Commonwealth countries must be permanent residents.
  • You need to be able to enroll in an academic program in the UK by September/October 2020.
  • You must acquire either an upper second grade (2:1) or a second class (2:2) first degree and the applicable postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree) by September 2020. A second UK Master’s degree cannot be sponsored by the CSC. You should give reasons for seeking a second degree.
  • Having no other means by which to study in the UK
  • All supporting documents were submitted in the appropriate format.

What is the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship process?

Scholarship applications must be post by nominating bodies and not directly to CSC.

They must apply to these nominating bodies. Nominating bodies may have additional eligibility requirements as part of their selection process. If you have questions regarding your nominating body’s specific advice and rules, eligibility requirements, or applicant deadline, contact them directly.

As well as any application required by your nominating body, you must submit your application through the CSC’s online application system. The CSC will not accept any applications not submitted online.

Apply no later than October 30, 2020, at midnight.

In the days leading up to the application deadline, the online application system will be very busy, so we recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible.

Applicants must submit their applications by 16:00 (GMT) on 20 November 2020 that can be consider.

  • Upload proof of citizenship or refugee status to the online application system.
  • Upload all transcripts for your higher education qualifications including any transcripts that have been updated since the last time you took the course. This includes translations if the transcripts are not in English.
  • References – sent directly to online application system by the referees (emails will be sent to the referees)

Referees must receive the reference request and respond by the deadline.

Nominating agencies or outside parties will not permit to submission of supporting documentation to the CSC.
