Studying abroad is one of your dreams? You can now make your dream a reality by applying for an International Excellence Scholarship at the University of Waikato for international students studying an undergraduate or postgraduate (course taught, research) program. The University of Waikato created this scholarship in 2015 to foster education and encourage young talent from various backgrounds who are applying for their first undergraduate degree.

International Excellence Scholarship

Scholarships cover tuition fees only; funding will be transferred to tuition fees once they have applied for their first-year visa and paid for the first year fee. Criteria for eligibility:

Scholarships for International Excellence are available to the following individuals

  • It is essential that the applicant is not a citizen of New Zealand and belongs to one of the above countries.
  • When applying for the scholarship, the applicant should be an international member.
  • You should apply for the scholarship rather than any diploma or program.
  • To enroll in undergraduate or Postgraduate Scholarship programs at Waikato University, an applicant must apply for the first time.
  • It would help if you studied for a minimum of 12 months.
  • A fee shouldn’t have been paid during the application process.
  • Before applying, complete the English Proficiency diploma that is the need of the university.
  • When the applicant is considered for the scholarship, then he/she can live in New Zealand, and the scholarship holder can study more than 50% of programs online.
  • For exchange program students, the scholarship is not available.
  • A third party cannot sponsor an applicant.
  • Applicants should have a GPA of at least B+.
  • English proficiency tests, such as the IELTS or TOEFL, are required for admission.

Additional information:

Among the reasons for terminating the scholarship are:

  • Study visa conditions are not complied with if a student.
  • Apply to the university scholarship and enrol as a domestic student.
  • Discipline is taken against students who violate the scholarship regulations.
  • After applications are submitted, people will be notified of whether their application has been accepted after 8 to 12 weeks.
  • Scholarship applicants are not eligible for the scholarship if another university or educational institution has already granted them scholarships.
